New JCA President and other changes

Peter Wise hands over to David Balkin.

The 2005 JCA Board of Governors Annual General Meeting was highlighted by the appointment of David Balkin as incoming President of the communal fundraiser, planner and facilitator.

He takes over from long-time incumbent, Peter Wise, who had previously served for eight years in that role.

Mr Wise had earlier publicly announced that he favoured Mr Balkin, a former Chairman of the JCA's Priorities & Planning Committee, to succeed him as president.

The meeting also saw the appointment of two new JCA vice presidents - Peter Ivany and Jillian Segal AM.

Mr Ivany remains JCA Appeal Chairman and Ms Segal is Chairperson of the JCAs newly formed Jewish Communal Planning Group.

Retiring Vice-President and former Appeal Chairman, Barry Smorgon, will remain an Honorary Life Governor of JCA.

It was also announced at the meeting that Graham Einfeld will take over as JCA Honorary Treasurer from Stephen Green who had earlier advised that he was standing down from that post.

JCA Ambassador

Gavin Fingleson, Silver Baseball Medallist in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games and the only Australian Jew to have ever won an Olympic Medal, has become JCA's ambassador.  We are sure he will bring positive and vibrant energy and enthusiasm to our expanding team.
