Gavin Fingleson becomes JCA Ambassador

          Gavin                                        Gavin at Maccabi

Gavin was born in Johannesburg, South Africa.

His family immigrated to Australia in 1987 when Gavin was 11 years old.

Gavin attended St Ives Primary School for years 6 and 7 (1998 and 1999).  Then onto Masada College from Year 7 to Year 12 (1994).

He played Junior Soccer for Maccabi.

Gavin was awarded a sports Scholarship for College in America from 1995 to 1998 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Kinesiology.

From 1998 to 2004 Gavin played professional baseball in the independent leagues in America and also played in the Taiwanese Major League.

Gavin was a member of the NSW Baseball team that won the Claxton Shield (State Bases Tournament) back to back in 2004 and 2005.

He has been named the Australian Jewish Sportsman of the Year on 3 occasions and been named the NSW Jewish Sportsman of the Year on 4 occasions.

Throughout his career he has won numerous awards and holds several batting records in Australia, America and Taiwan.

Most recently, he was a member of the Australian Baseball Team that competed at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.  The team won a silver medal, making Gavin Australia's first ever Jewish Olympic medallist.

Gavin is married to Julie Feller, who runs her own real estate business.  She may be known to some as the auctioneer from the TV series "The Block".

Gavin will travel to Israel in July for the Maccabiah games as Ambassador for the Australian Maccabi team.

Gavin now spends his time in four main areas.

  1. Personal training for a limited number of clients.  He differentiates himself from other personal trainers by actually training with each client, which limits the number of clients he can take on.

  2. Running Baseball Days/Camps for kids and corporate days including lessons in team building and goal setting.

  3. Community work for JCA and Maccabi.  It is important to Gavin that he give back to the community that has supported him and his family.

  4. Keynote presentations or small seminars for groups.  These are tailored to the requirements of the audience.

We are sure he will bring positive and vibrant energy and enthusiasm to our expanding team.
