Our Vision

The Jewish Communal Appeal is the central charitable fundraising organisation for the New South Wales and ACT Jewish communities. Established in 1967, the JCA founders' vision unified the NSW Jewish community as never before. The JCA was founded to manage an annual communal fundraising appeal and to enable an equitable distribution of communal funds.

The JCA raises several million dollars a year for distribution amongst its members and also plans for future communal needs and undertakes community development.

The JCA is owned by the people who give funds to JCA, manage the services of the member organisations and benefit from the services provided. This ownership and involvement is the key to the success of JCA.

Every Jew has the right to live in security with dignity and an inherent right to be educated and guided along a Jewish path. JCA strives to reach out to every corner of the community and seeks to amplify the scope of communal facilities and services to broaden the field of endeavour and to increase the vitality of Jewish life.

Sydney's 40,000 Jews enjoy one of the most energetic Jewish communities in the world. The range of Jewish organisations and services has continued to expand under the banner of JCA. Today, there are 18 constituent organisations covering school, tertiary and continuing education, welfare, family, aged and communal services.

The JCA has grown alongside the community it supports. Member organisations work together to provide for the needs of the whole community and provide over 60 major services, which deliver 200 individual programs and activities. The impact of these services reaches and benefits almost every Jewish person living in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.
